WE WOULD ALWAYS ADVISE AGAINST CUTTING HOLES IN THE CEILING TO FIT LIGHTS AS IT ALLOWS SOUND TO PASS THROUGH IT MUCH MORE EASILY. IF YOU MUST USE DOWNLIGHTERS PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU FIT THESE HOODS WITH OUR OTHER SOUNDPROOFING PRODUCTS SEEN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.

These Acoustic Hoods add mass and sound absorption above the light, which will improve the soundproofing performance.  Independent acoustic tests  have shown that a ceiling with down lighters and acoustic hoods installed performs to within 1dB of a standard ceiling with no holes.
Down lighters in ceilings are widely used in commercial buildings.  Most of these ceilings are subject to fire regulations and where applicable the ceiling construction needs to be fire protected.  However, once a hole has been made in the ceiling for a down lighter, the integrity of the fire resistance is reduced. To counteract this we have introduced this acoustic fire hood to give added protection over holes created for down lighters and to allow for maximum ease of fitting.
Because the acoustic hood is intumescent, in the event of a fire, the cover expands internally to create a highly insulating fire resistant barrier.  The fire is therefore, unable to penetrate the hole and the cover so is able to give additional fire protection over the hole to reduce the chance of heat build up and ignition of flammable materials above such as accumulated dust.
These hoods are available in many sizes to suit the cut out space.
